September 2019: journalism club
- September–October 2019 (Grade 5): Alysha’s interest in journalism began casually. She signed up for the journalism club simply because it seemed fun and different from her usual classes. During her first few meetings, she mostly observed, listened to older members, and tried to understand how everything worked. She joined beginner workshops where she learned the basics of news and feature writing, simple interviewing techniques, and article structure. Like most new members, she was placed in the staff writer position. At that stage, she was still unsure of her voice, and her early output required revisions, but she was curious and willing to learn.
- Late 2019: As the months passed, she slowly gained confidence in her writing. Feedback from the adviser helped her improve her introductions and organization. Seeing her work published in the school paper, even in small sections, made her feel validated. She was not exceptional yet, but she began to feel that writing was something she could genuinely grow into.
- Mid-2020 to Early 2022 (Grade 6 to Grade 7): Her performance gradually peaked during this period. With the shift to online classes, she had more flexibility and time to focus on writing. The quieter environment allowed her to revise her work more carefully and explore topics that sparked her curiosity, including world history, culture, sociology, and psychology. These interests subtly deepened her feature articles, making them more reflective and thoughtful. She remained a staff writer, but she became a more active contributor during this time.
- Late 2022 to Early 2023: As in-person activities increased and new passions began to emerge in her life, her peak momentum gradually slowed down. She remained an active staff writer, but her attendance became less frequent and her submissions less consistent. The shift was not dramatic — just a natural redistribution of her energy as her world became busier and more complex.
